38 up

That’s degrees celsius for those of us in Victoria and South Australia in particular, who are facing a hot, dry, windy week. With predictions that Melbourne folk may have their hottest week in 100 years it’s a good time to remember a few simple ways to keep cool.

Check out my summer tips about drinking water. Remember fruit juice icy poles, watermelon, cold soups (like yummy gazpacho) or put a jug of H2O beside you and aim to get through it every hour or two.

With babies and toddlers in nappies – keep an eye on their output. Less than usual wet nappies (diapers) means they are dehydrated.

My favourite public place for hot days is my local library. Most are air conditioned, have comfy chairs, magazines, computers and of course, books. A great place to cool down and get informed.

A trip to the movies will also keep you cool and out of the sun for a couple of hours.

If you are heading for the beach or pool, take some shade with you, keep an eye on your fluid intake and avoid getting burnt.

Oh, I feel so bad for you all. I was watching the Australian Open last night and saw that you have a record heat wave burning up the country. It's cold here, so very hard to imagine. Take care of yourselves! Sending cold energy your way.
:-)
In good health,
Melissa

Hi Melissa
...it's so hot they are stopping horse races
...it's so hot the rail lines are buckling
...it's so hot that because of the public transport chaos all week - it is free to ride the trams, trains and buses all day today
...it's so hot that water comes out scalding hot of the cold tap when you turn it on
...it's so hot and dry that the bush fires have started
...it's so hot that some people are running the air conditioning too much and the power keeps getting shut off (strangely, this is Australia not India)

Enjoy the cold weather and throw a snow ball for us all sweltering half a world away :)
